Abstract

This article aims to identify the performance of 25 children and adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) and highfunctioning autism (HFA) in manipulative and verbal tasks, which can constitute a specific clinical marker in the subtypes differentiation of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The intellectual profile of the sample was analyzed through the Wechsler Intelligence Scale (WISC-IV). This study allowed to determine the differences between verbal, perceptual, memory, and speed processing in AS and HFA groups. In particular, the good score obtained in the verbal comprehension index suggestsremodeling the construct in order to discriminate clinical subtypes through cognitive performance in these populations.
