¿Conduce la inferencia a la mejor explicación necesariamente al realismo científico?

Tradicionalmente se ha argumentado que el mecanismo inferencial denominado inferencia a la mejor explicación (ime) es un arma letal en favor del realismo científico (rc). Tal idea ha sido presumiblemente motivada por la estructura asignada al argumento más célebre empleado por los defensores del rc, a saber, el argumento del no milagro, de acuerdo con el cual, en palabras de Putman, “el realismo es la única filosofía que no hace del éxito de la ciencia un milagro”. Sin embargo, el presente trabajo se propone demostrar que es perfectamente posible aplicar una ime que conduzca a una conclusión antirrealista científica con el sencillo expediente de modificar ciertos supuestos metafísicos que están a la base del argumento.
