The drug supply chain in Cuba

The Drug Distributor Company EMCOMED managed the supply chain of medicines in Cuba, its mission being to increase the availability and the opportunity of medicines as final customers of the chain. The objective of the present study is to update the bases that allow us to adopt a supply chain approach from the company EMCOMED. For this, it was applied Integrated Management of Supply Chains Model, as a basic tool; also, in the development of the research techniques are used as interviews, surveys, chain maps and document review, and tools as a Reference Model of Logistics, Reference Model of Value Networks and the Cause-Effect diagram. Result of the study, the availability variable was selected as the impact indicator of the drug chain and EMCOMED is reaffirmed as coordinator of this network, which is in Stage II focused on the organization of the supply chain integration. Based on the analysis of the coordination variables and their diagnosis, development projects were proposed focused on: consolidating integrated management and the incorporation of information technologies in it.
