Abstract

Research about professional skills and their relationship with job performance will always be of great interest to businessmen and academics in their purpose to improve organizational performance. Thus, the objective of the article is to determine the type of association between personal managerial competencies and job performance measured from the perspective of the IWPQ (Individual Job Performance Questionnaire). The investigative approach will focus on emotional intelligence, its personal and social dimensions. The measurement instruments were applied to the students of the night shift of the industrial engineering program of the Buga de Uniminuto regional center, who study at the university and work for organizations in the center of Valle del Cauca, simultaneously. A moderate positive association is found between emotional intelligence in its social dimension and job performance. Finally, a moderate positive association is found between emotional intelligence in its social dimension and job performance, based on these results. Finally, a training proposal is made in Emotional Intelligence with a positive effect on job performance.
